Unnamed Resolution concerning Grizzly Bears in Sierra del Nico, Chihuahua, Mexico

WHEREAS, the last population of grizzly bears (osos plateados) remaining south of Wyoming persists in the Sierra del Nido of central Chihuahua; and

WHEREAS, this population represents the only surviving members of this unique and once widespread form; and

WHEREAS, this remnant population is in grave danger of being exterminated; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Society of Mammalogists strongly memorializes the federal government of Mexico to investigate the status of this bear and to take whatever measures are necessary to insure the protection and preservation of this scientifically and aesthetically valuable member of its national fauna, and

FURTHERMORE LET IT BE RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be sent to Dr. Enrique Beltran and Dr. Rodolfo Hernandez Corzo.
