Resolution Supporting Conservation Efforts in Peru

WHEREAS, protection of its mammalian fauna by Peru, including the establishment of an excellent system of national parks and reserves, has been outstanding; and

WHEREAS, the mammalian fauna of Peru is rich and varied and includes many rare and endangered species, one of which is the newly rediscovered yellow-tailed wooly monkey, Lagothrix flavicauda (Humboldt); and

WHEREAS, Antonio Brack Egg, Sub-Director de Flora y Fauna Silvestre, Direccion General de Forestal y Casa, Ministerio de Agricultura, has occupied a central role in establishing those parks and reserves;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Society of Mammalogists indicate their concern for the biota of Peru and their pleasure in the successful efforts of Peru and Dr. Brack Egg and his colleagues in establishing a sound foundation for the conservation of that biota.
