Resolution Addressed to the Republic of Haiti

WHEREAS, the Republic of Haiti is considering the establishment of a natural preserve; and

WHEREAS, the Hispaniolan fauna includes a number of mammalian forms of great interest to science, particularly Solenodon and the aguti (Plagiodontia), and whose survival is in jeopardy;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Society of Mammalogists endorses the Republic of Haiti's concern for the preservation of wild populations of native mammals, and encourages it to proceed with the establishment of appropriate natural reserves.
