WHEREAS, Surinam has established nine national areas for protection of its indigenous flora and fauna, which includes many rare and endangered species of both tropical rainforests and savannahs; and
WHEREAS, Joop Schulz, Director, STINASU, Surinam Forest Service, has been a moving force in the establishment of this excellent nature protection system;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Society of Mammalogists commend and congratulate the nation of Surinam and Joop Schulz and his colleagues for the establishment of this valuable, extensive nature protection system.
