Get ready for #ASMPalouse!

The Spilogale was a short publication distributed at annual ASM meetings that presented humorous “research” articles (think Journal of Irreproducible Results) about mammals. ASM 2017 will include a revival of the publication with a new section that includes humorous stories from the field (prompted by a tale of rodent CPR performed by one of our former ASM presidents). So, please consider sharing such stories or research articles for this year’s revival of Spilogale! Send submissions to Ron Barry by April 30th!

You maybe familiar with the #actuallivingscientist campaign on social media! This is the ASM version. Please send us your photos of students and colleagues in the field or lab! Pictures will be displayed as slide shows during the meeting, and there will likely be prizes awarded at the closing social and awards ceremony! Pictures also will be used on the ASM website and social media outlets. Send photos, names of people and other species, and Twitter handles to Ryan Long by May 15th.

Late registration rates will run from April 1st to June 10th. After June 10th, registration will only be available onsite. Rates will increase by $50 onsite. Register online now and save!

For those also considering the Evolution meeting in nearby Portland, why choose? ASM 2017 is providing a low-cost transportation option to allow attendance at both meetings. For $50, ASM 2017 attendees can take a charter bus from Moscow to Portland on Friday, June 24th, arriving just in time for evening festivities at Evolution 2017. This option is available during registration. The bus is partially sponsored by RTLGenomics.

Also, be sure to register for the Gordon L. Kirkland Memorial Run-for-Research. It is going to be a special one! The first run was held at the 1987 meeting, making this the 30-year anniversary. To celebrate, an anonymous donor will be contributing $10 for each participant who runs an extra lap around the track at the end of the race. This is in honor of Gordie who did so at his last run for research! All proceeds will go to the Future Mammalogists Fund. In addition, there will be newly designed tech t-shirts, prizes, and more. Please wear your oldest Run-for-Research t-shirt that you have for a special prize!

If you already registered and wish to purchase a bus ticket, participate in the Gordy L. Kirkland Memorial Run-For-Research, or add any other a la carte registration item, please contact Christy Classi for assistance.

Housing: A variety of housing options are available this year, including campus dorm housing. Reservations should be made before the end of May for most housing options. The three closest airports to the Moscow area are the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport, the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport, and the Spokane International Airport. Each airport offers various car rental options. There also are several options for travel from each airport to the hotels ranging from taxis and shuttles to public transportation. To research the method that best suits you, please visit each airport’s website. Moscow also is serviced by Greyhound and Amtrak.
