Dorm rooms are available and Late Registration

Ninety-Eighth Meeting of the America Society of Mammalogists

25-29 June 2018

Kansas State University – Manhattan, KS

This year’s meeting will offer an exciting program with five workshops, two symposia, and two plenary sessions, in addition to the diversity of high-quality contributed papers and posters. Workshops will provide training in using UAVs in biological research, mammalian parasites, alternatives to academic careers, interviewing strategies, and how to use Wallace. Symposia will include current topics in Bat Conservation and Mammalian Paleoecology. The two plenary sessions will feature student Honoraria and Fellowship recipients and the 2017 recipients of the ASM Grinnell, Leopold, and Merriam Awards—Drs. Bob Timm, Geraldo Ceballos, and Mark Boyce. And we are honored to have Dr. Blaire Van Valkenburgh as our capstone speaker.

Housing: Dorm room registration is now open. Dorm rooms will be available from June 23rd to July 1st. Prices will be $36/night/person for a single room, and $29/night/person for a double room. The optional meal plan (breakfast and lunch) will be $16/day. To register for dorm rooms and a meal plan, please visit the following site. Questions should be directed to Josh Hilbrand.

If you are booking a hotel, be sure to reference the American Society of Mammalogists to receive the conference group rate. Most reservations should be made before the end of May. Check out the meeting travel and lodging page for additional information!

Transportation: Manhattan, Kansas is serviced primarily by Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK). There are five flights per day into and out of Manhattan on American Airlines. These are direct flights on regional jets from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) airport and Chicago O’Hare (ORD). There is a shuttle service on site at the airport to take you to your destination in Manhattan. Before you depart, make sure you are prepared for the REAL ID Act.

Additionally, attendees may prefer to fly into and out of Kansas City International (MCI) or Wichita’s Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT). Both airports are roughly a 2-hour drive to Manhattan. It would be most cost effective for attendees flying into these airports to rent a car. Shuttle service is also an option from both locations but will likely cost approximately $75 each way per person.

The nearest Amtrak station is located in Topeka, Kansas (about an hour away) and the nearest Greyhound station is located in Junction City, KS (about 20 minutes away).

Late registration rates will run from April 7th to June 10th. After June 10th, registration will only be available onsite. Rates will increase by $50 onsite. Register online now to take advantage of the lower rates. Also, please be sure to signup for social events, workshops, field trips, and make other a la carte purchases during registration! These items will have limited availability at the meeting and will be offered on a first come-first serve basis. Please contact Christy Classi for assistance.

In addition, our friends at Wildlife Acoustics will be providing a Bioacoustics Lunch and Learn Workshop. The workshop will be held during lunch on Friday, June 29th. This will be a hands-on workshop based on the Song Meter SM4 family. Topics covered will include how to deploy an unattended recorder, choosing ideal settings for your project, and how to plan and create recording schedules. Lunch will be provided for those who preregister. If you are interested in this specific workshop, please register here.
