| History and Mission The Human Diversity Committee was formed from the ad hoc Committee on Women and Minorities in 1998. Its mission is to encourage and facilitate an increase in the diversity of active participants of the Society by working to reduce any and all barriers, especially those associated with gender, race, ethnic background, age, physical disabilities, or sexual preference. Responsibilities This committee is examining approaches and efforts that other scientific societies have used to broaden the diversity of their membership and especially the diversity of the participants in societal activities and functions, including governance. This committee sets up the society's "Ombudspersons," who are available to intercede for any members. This committee also plans and conducts various symposia, workshops, and other activities associated with its mission. |
